Drums beating in Yagan Square

WAAPA’s award-winning percussion ensemble ‘Defying Gravity’ took to Yagan Square and the streets of Perth, to fill the air with the electrifying sounds of samba-inspired percussion, in a taste of what’s to come when the ECU City Campus opens in 2025.

Crowds were delighted as the troupe of ten WAAPA Bachelor of Music students emerged from various locations around Yagan Square to add to the crescendo of percussion in the heart of the CBD.

WAAPA is one of the schools that will be part of ECU’s world-class Creative Industries, Business and Technology campus in the heart of Perth, breathing new life into the city. WAAPA alone will bring over 300 live performances to the city when the campus opens.

“I’m so glad this happened today, it just makes me so happy,” commented one surprised onlooker.
