ECU City inspires young women to consider a career in construction

A group of Year 10 students from Mount Lawley Senior High School recently experienced a behind the scenes look at ECU City as part of Multiplex’s Jump Start Program.

From the classroom to construction site, the Jump Start program aims to inspire a new generation of women to consider a career in construction through the lens of one of Perth’s biggest projects at ECU City.

The group learned about how the landmark campus is coming to life and the world-class facilities that students will enjoy when it opens in semester one, 2026.

Over six months, the students took part in a series of workshops and site tours, including a specialised trades workshop, to demonstrate the breadth of opportunity available in the built environment.

The program aims to highlight the diverse range of rewarding careers on offer – from project management to trades.

Led by women from Multiplex, it was supported by Multiplex sub-contractors, consultants and ECU staff who donated their time to speak to the Jump Start participants about their own career pathways.

For the students, the unique learning opportunities gained while witnessing Perth’s newest and most innovative university campus in the making, have been invaluable.

Featuring world-class learning, engagement and collaboration spaces, the 65,000 square metre campus is set to redefine the Perth CBD. Once open, ECU City will welcome around 10,000 staff and students.

The landmark, $853 million ECU City project is part of the $1.66 billion Perth City Deal, a collaboration between the Australian Government, the Western Australian Government and ECU to deliver Perth’s first inner-city comprehensive university campus,
